WORK EXPERIENCE

v  August 2003 – February 2011: Head of School, The Portland French School:
I managed all aspects of the school : finances, education, fundraising, hire, evaluate and renew or terminate faculty and staff; maintain accreditation with the French Ministry of Education, maintain registration with the Oregon Department of Education, secure licensing from the Child Care Division.
Under my leadership, PFS emerged from a severe financial crisis with $1.5 million dollar deficit and undertook bold educational and managerial innovations:
- students trips to OMSI Camps, France, Costa Rica, Outward bound
- a third language (Chinese / Spanish) starting in 3^rd grade
- the first authorized International Baccalaureate independent school in Oregon
- a school advisory council composed of the different constituencies;
I also taught 4^th and 5^th grade math, Middle School French social studies while being the Head of School.

v  2000 – 2003: Teacher and Cycle 3 coordinator at The Portland French School:
- taught 1^st , 4^th and 5^th grades,
- coordinated a team of 4 teachers to develop, align and integrate the French curriculum and the Oregon Standards,
- trained the elementary school teachers on Integrated Thematic Instruction, on the teaching science and math in elementary school,
- coached after school soccer

PORTLAND FRENCH SCHOOL - BILAN D'UNE GESTION SENEGALAISE  / TEMOIGNAGES

 

- «PFS was founded in 1989 to offer a French-language immersion education to students in the Pacific Northwest» - Créée en 1989, la Portland French School avait pour objectif d'offrir à la communauté du Pacific Northwest une immersion dans la langue française.

- «The Board greatly appreciates Elimane’s efforts in rescuing the school from a financial crisis in 2003, and building the school to what it is today» - Effectivement, il est indéniable qu'en 2003, la Portland French School traversa une terrible crise financière. Appelé à prendre le poste de Directeur, il se mit au travail avec acharnement et sortit l'école de la gange dans laquelle elle s'était empêtrée.

La Portland French School? Elimane Mbengue a su en faire une formidable communauté riche de par sa diversité et qui n'est rien d'autre que sa vision du monde comme l'atteste son slogan «  Educating each child with the world in mind». Ouverture au monde ? Voilà que tout est dit...

 - La Portland French School s'est intégrée dans le réseau des écoles françaises et bénéficie de l'homologation de l'AEFE.

 - «Elimane built, along with an incredibly dedicated group of parents and teachers, the PFS Middle School, which offers a safe, nurturing, and intellectually challenging environment for our children as they transition to adolescence.» L'appétit vient en mangeant dit l'adage. Le secondaire, sous son implusion, voit le jour. Toujours ambitieux et volontaire, il obtient le label IB pour son établissement.

Qu'est ce que l'IB?

Le programme est destiné à des élèves âgés de 3 à 19 ans . Il aideà développer les capacités intellectuelles, personnelles, émotionnelles et sociales nécessaires pour vivre, apprendre et travailler dans un contexte de mondialisation rapide.La communauté du Baccalauréat International compte plus de 904 000 élèves et 3 143 établissements scolaires répartis dans 140 pays.

 Le programme offre une éducation continue allant de la maternelle à la fin des études secondaires. Les établissements scolaires peuvent choisir d’offrir chacun de ces programmes de manière autonome ou de tous les offrir pour qu’ils forment un continuum.

Le Programme primaire s’adresse aux élèves âgés de 3 à 12 ans. Il met l’accent sur le développement de l’enfant dans sa globalité dans et en dehors de la salle de classe.

 Le Programme de premier cycle secondaire est destiné aux élèves âgés de 11 à 16 ans. Ce programme d’études stimulant enseigne aux élèves des aptitudes à la vie quotidienne, en englobant pour cela les disciplines scolaires traditionnelles et en transcendant les frontières qui existent entre elles.
Le Programme du diplôme, destiné aux élèves âgés de 16 à 19 ans, est un programme d’études exigeant de deux ans menant à des examens finaux et à un diplôme reconnu dans le monde entier par les universités les plus prestigieuses.

 Chaque programme comprend un programme d’études, une pédagogie et un système d’évaluation des élèves adaptés à la tranche d’âge à laquelle il est destiné. Des activités de développement professionnel destinées aux enseignants, ainsi qu’un processus d’autorisation et d’évaluation des établissements, sont également prévus dans chacun de ces programmes. Les programmes de l’IB sont enseignés dans 3 143 écoles du monde de l'IB réparties dans 140 pays.

 

 - La Portland French School, sous l'égide du Sénégalais Mbengue, obtient aussi, dans la foulée, l'accréditation de la PNAIS The Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools   qui « is an organization devoted to promoting quality education within independent schools in the Pacific Northwest. PNAIS aims to develop comprehensive accreditation standards, to foster collegial and ethical relations among its schools, and to safeguard and represent their interests.»...

- «Through his recruiting efforts, our faculty currently represents 13 nations and four continents.  His recognition of the importance of music, physical education and art education is reflected in PFS being one of the few schools that embrace those subjects». Qui dit mieux? 13 nations, 4 continents représentés au sein de l'établissement. Les arts, la musique et le sport sont dispensés par des professionnels... Law la thiat Mbengue mbooro...

PERSPECTIVES D'AVENIR...

La fin du partenariat avec la Portland French School  en Février 2011 constitue la fin d'un long cycle fructueux. Notre compatriote Elimane Mbengue a su transformer en actes et en acquis les attentes et espoirs placés en lui.

2000 / 2011... Il a tout donné... Nous lui souhaitons bon vent et que les Mannes des Ancêtres l'accompagnent le reste du chemin. Nous vous ferons part de sa nouvelle orientation professionnelle après son break sabbatique de quelques mois.
